The numbers

How many spools does 100 kg take?

A farm that prints 100 kg of filament a month needs this many spools — and the same number of spool changes.

Spool sizeSpools per 100 kg (= spool changes per month)Spool changes per year
1 kg1001200
5 kg20240
10 kg10120
15 kg≈ 780

Based on 100 kg per month; a 15 kg spool needs about 93 % fewer changes than 1 kg spools.

Savings & eco calculator

What 1 kg spools really cost a print farm

Every 1 kg spool ends with a remainder that is too short for the next part. It either becomes waste or forces a spool change mid-print, which can leave a visible line on the part or ruin the print. Enter your own numbers:

Example values — replace them with your own. The calculation assumes that leftovers too short for a whole part are not used.

384 kgkg less leftover filament per year
7,680 €€ of filament no longer wasted per year
180 hhours of spool changes saved per year
2,160fewer empty spools to dispose of per year

10 kg spools compared with 1 kg spools, using the values on the left.

Spool sizeWhole parts per spoolLeftover per spoolLeftover per yearSpool changes / empty spools per year
1 kg 1 200 g (20 %) 480.0 kg 2,400
5 kg 6 200 g (4 %) 96.0 kg 480
10 kg 12 400 g (4 %) 96.0 kg 240
15 kg 18 600 g (4 %) 96.0 kg 160

No seam lines, no failed prints

With an 800 g part, a 1 kg spool leaves 200 g — not enough for another part. Changing spools mid-print risks a visible line or a failed print. A 10 kg spool prints 12 whole parts in a row.

Five times less leftover

The leftover on a 10 kg spool is 400 g per 10 kg (4 %) instead of 200 g on every 1 kg spool (20 %).

90 % fewer empty spools

Every 1 kg spool leaves an empty spool and packaging behind. A 10 kg spool replaces ten of them, a 15 kg spool fifteen.

Built for farms

Why big spools for a farm

Less downtime

A 10 kg reel replaces ten 1 kg rolls — ten fewer changes and ten fewer overnight runs stopped by an empty reel.

One batch, one colour

Large reels come from a single production batch, so parts printed on different machines match.

Lower cost per kilogram

Less packaging and fewer cores mean a lower price per kg than retail 1 kg rolls.

Made to order

We extrude your order, so colour, quantity and delivery date are planned with you — no guessing at stock.

Ordering

How ordering works

  1. Send a quote request with material, colour, spool size and quantity.
  2. We confirm price, production slot and shipping cost — usually within one working day.
  3. Pay by bank transfer against a pro-forma invoice; EU businesses with a valid VAT ID pay no VAT (reverse charge).
  4. We produce, pack and ship by courier or on a pallet, with tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 5, 10 or 15 kg spool fit my printers?

Large spools are used with an external spool holder or a bulk feeder next to the printer, feeding through a PTFE tube. Tell us your printer models and we will advise on spool dimensions.

Do you sell to private customers?

Filamenti.eu is built for businesses — print farms, workshops, schools and manufacturers. Private customers can buy 1 kg CROFIL spools at 3dprinteri.hr.

How is VAT handled?

Businesses in another EU country with a VAT ID valid in VIES are invoiced without VAT (reverse charge, Art. 196 of Directive 2006/112/EC). Croatian businesses are invoiced with 25 % VAT. Deliveries to Switzerland, Norway and the UK are exports.

What is the lead time?

Spools are produced to order. The production slot is confirmed in the quote; shipping within the EU then takes 2–5 working days.

Is there a minimum order?

One spool is enough to get a quote. The price per kg drops with volume, and pallet orders get the best rate.
